Tharad is one of the fastest developing taluka of Banaskantha district of Gujarat. Tharad is the major trade centre of the entire rural border region as well as the nearby area of Rajasthan. It is well-known for the dairy and agriculture industry. Keeping in view, the importance and requirement of higher education in this region, Government Arts & Commerce College, Tharad, was established in June 2009 by the Commissionerate of Higher Education, Gujarat. Dr. Y. S. Sharma took the charge as a founding principal of this college, who promoted from Shri M. N. College, Visnagar. Initially, the college started at the compound of Shri Gayatri Vidyalaya, Tharad. The college got its new building with modern amenities, spread across 10-acre land at Mitha-Bhabhar road and shifted in 2014.
