Walchand Institute of Technology

Walchand Institute of Technology (or WIT), established in 1983, is the oldest engineering college in Solapur, India. WIT is managed by Shri Aillak Pannalal Digambar Jain Pathashala Trust and is named after Seth Walchand Hirachand, one of India's pioneers of industrial development. The institute is affiliated to Solapur University (previously to Shivaji University, Kolhapur) and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. Shri Aillak Pannalal Digambar Jain Pathashala Trust, established in 1885, started this college in July 1983 which is appropriately named after Seth Walchand Hirachand, one of our country's pioneer's of industrial development.
The Institute offers Graduate Courses as- Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering in Electronics and Telecommunication, Engineering in Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, along with Post Graduate Courses as Civil Engineering- Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Industrial Electronics.
The college has a library comprising more than 3500 books and several journals on various subjects. Students have an easy access to these. There is also a facility of reading room within the library for all the students. The library also has internet facilities to students and staff.
The College has a small health post equipped with basic first aid, drugs and equipment to deal with emergency situations. Walchand Institute of Technology (or WIT) also encourages students towards participation in sports and has a sports ground for cricket, volleyball, football and lawn tennis and a common room where students can play indoor games like Table Tennis, Carom, Chess, etc. The College campus is also equipped with an air-conditioned Auditorium for seminars, and a Language lab with latest software’s to provide better understanding of English among students.
The College campus hosts many cultural and extracurricular events throughout the year which are organized by student committees. Kanpur institute of technology provides a dedicated Placement Cell for assistance for the placement of students and to guide them through the placement process and interview skills.
