Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat is one of the 17 Regional Engineering Colleges that were established in collaboration as joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat. It was evolved in the year 1961 with its graduation programme in different Engineering disciples however, in order to carter the need of students it has now changed to National Institute of Technology along with other RECs.
The total intake of students currently is 426. Fifty per cent of the seats are filled up from the Gujarat State and the fifty percent of the seats are reserved for the students from other States with quota fixed for every State. It gives total opportunity to foreign students with a quota of twenty seats available under the scheme of Central Government.
The college has a campus of its own; spread over 100 hectares of land on the Surat-Dumas Highway. It has the world class physical infrastructure and manpower, equipments of most advance and sophisticate technology. The college gives utmost priority to develop and have proper management of all necessary facilities for academic, extra-curricular and recreational activities of the students. The College is having in all seven hostels, six for boys & one for girl’s students, with fully furnished rooms accommodating 990 students. There is a separate 191 apartment for residential accommodation for unit and staffs. . The college has a Canteen, a Students Store, a Dispensary, a Guest House, a Post Office, a branch of the State Bank of India and playground for some of the major games, viz. Football, Basketball, Volleyball and
Cricket.
SVNIT provides various full time engineering courses under its four years bachelor and two years master’s degree programme the courses offered are:
Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering
Master of Technology in Structural Engineering
Master of Technology in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering
Master of Technology in Environmental Engineering
Master of Technology in Water Resources Engineering
With a view to forge a much needed link between academia and industry, SVNIT has been striving continuously to develop and strengthen its corporate linkages with various national and international business organizations. Some of them are Fortune 500 companies and their visit to the campus is a testimonial to the brand value of SVNIT, Surat. The exhaustive list includes Google Inc, Microsoft Corp., TCS, IBM Global Services, Accenture (IDC), Wipro, Tata Motors, General Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Udyog, Atos Origin, Infosys, Amdocs, CSC, L&T, Ashok Leyland and BPCL.
